Step 2: Enable Index Schedule

Toggle Index Schedule to ON.

Step 3: Select the Update Frequency

Select your preferred update frequency from the options that appear below the toggle.

Choose a frequency that matches how often your product catalog changes. If you add or update products daily, a daily schedule is appropriate. If your catalog rarely changes, a less frequent schedule reduces server load.

Step 4: Verify the Schedule is Active

Click Save Settings at the top of the page.

A success message appears. The schedule is now active, and the indexer will rebuild automatically at the selected interval.

How Does Scheduled Indexing Work

Scheduled indexing keeps your search index current without requiring manual intervention. This is useful if your store has frequent inventory changes, regular product imports, or multiple team members updating products throughout the day.

When the schedule triggers, the indexer performs the same rebuild process as a manual force rebuild. It extracts searchable text from all products based on your current Search Scope and Search Filters settings, then replaces the existing index with the new data.

The rebuild process uses batched loading to avoid overwhelming your server. For catalogs with thousands of products, the scheduled rebuild may take several minutes to complete. The process runs in the background and does not interrupt the live search functionality on your storefront. Customers can continue searching using the existing index while the new one is being built.

Enabling a schedule does not prevent you from doing manual forced rebuilds. If you make significant changes to your catalog outside of the scheduled window, you can still click Force Index Rebuild at any time.

Troubleshooting

Scheduled rebuilds are not occurring

Verify your site’s cron system is functioning. Scheduled tasks depend on your site’s scheduling system to trigger at the correct intervals. If your site does not receive regular traffic, scheduled events may not fire on time. Consider setting up a server-level cron job to ensure reliable scheduling.

The index is out of date between scheduled runs

If you need more frequent updates, select a higher frequency in the schedule settings. Alternatively, click Force Index Rebuild after making bulk changes.

High server load during scheduled rebuilds

If scheduled rebuilds coincide with peak traffic and cause performance issues, select a less frequent schedule. You can also change the schedule time to run during off-peak hours.
