Excluding Out of Stock Products

To hide out-of-stock products from search, navigate to Elevated › Product Search › Settings › Advanced Options and expand the Search Filters section. Toggle Exclude Out-of-Stock Products to ON, then click Save Settings. The indexer automatically applies the stock filter. Out-of-stock products will no longer appear in the search dropdown.

The indexer automatically rebuilds to exclude out of stock products. A success message appears indicating how many products were indexed.

Step 4: Test the Out-of-Stock Filter

Visit a page on your frontend where the search form is placed.

Search for a product that you know is currently out of stock. Confirm that it does not appear in the live dropdown results.

Then search for a product that is in stock. Confirm that it appears normally.

WooCommerce Product Search Out of Stock Exclusion

The Exclude Out of Stock Products toggle checks the stock status field for each WooCommerce product during indexing. Products marked as Out of stock are skipped and not added to the search index. Products marked as In stock or On backorder continue to appear in search results.

Before using this feature, make sure your inventory levels and stock statuses are accurate. A product with zero inventory but no stock management enabled may still show as in stock in WooCommerce, which means Elevated Product Search will continue to include it in search results. To rely on this filter, your store should use consistent stock tracking.

Troubleshooting

Out-of-stock products still appear in search

Confirm the Exclude Out of Stock Products toggle is set to ON and that you clicked Save Settings. Check the product’s stock status in WooCommerce. If the status is In stock or On backorder, Elevated Product Search will include it. Click Force Index Rebuild in the Indexer section if you recently changed stock statuses.

No search results appear at all

If all products in your store are marked as out of stock, enabling this toggle will empty your search index. Verify that at least some products are in stock.

Backordered products appear when they should not

This toggle only excludes products with the Out of stock status. Products on backorder remain searchable. Change the stock status manually to Out of stock if you want to hide them.
