Managing Elevated Site Search with Your AI Agent

A connected AI agent can run Elevated Site Search end to end: search the same index your visitors use, read and change every setting from fuzzy matching to themes and brand colors, control what gets indexed, rebuild and monitor the index, and read search analytics. It cannot touch licensing, install plugins, or switch its own access on. This page lists what the agent can do, with prompts you can copy, and explains the confirmation model. If you haven’t connected an agent yet, start with Connect Your AI Agent.

Table of Contents

What Your Agent Can Do

Elevated Site Search exposes 14 operations to connected agents: the same validated, permission-checked operations the admin interface uses.

  • Search. Query the same index visitors use, with the same scope and fuzzy matching, filtered by post type when needed.
  • Settings. Read the complete settings (169 options) and change any of them: themes, brand colors, dark mode, labels, layout, fuzzy matching, and more. A partial update touches only the fields the agent sends.
  • Scope. List the post types that can be indexed, the custom fields that can be made searchable, and the categories and tags usable as filters, then change what the index covers.
  • Index. Check index status and health, rebuild the index (optionally switching between the MySQL and SQLite engines), follow rebuild progress, and cancel a running rebuild.
  • Analytics. Read the popular searches list, and clear it.

What Your Agent Cannot Do

  • Licensing. License activation and deactivation are not exposed as abilities.
  • Its own access. The Allow AI agent access toggle is yours. When it is off, every Site Search ability disappears from the agent’s tool list.
  • Installing or removing plugins. Installing Agent Connector is a human action on the AI Agent page.
  • Creating or editing content. Site Search abilities read your content through the index; they never create, change, or delete posts.

Searching the Site

The agent searches the same index, scope, and fuzzy matching your visitors get, so its results match what the search box shows. Searches made by the agent are not recorded in your search analytics.

Prompt

Search my site for 'denim care' and show me the top results.

Changing Settings and Styling

Every option in Elevated › Site Search › Settings can be read and changed by the agent: the search theme, colors, dark mode, labels, result display, fuzzy matching, and the rest. A partial update touches only the fields the agent sends and reports back the full settings.

Prompt

Switch Site Search to the Modern theme in dark mode.

Prompt

Use my brand colors in the search: brand #0B5FFF, accent #16C79A.

Prompt

Rename the no-results message to 'Nothing found. Try a different word?'

Controlling What Gets Searched

Out of the box the index covers posts and pages. The agent can see what else is available and widen or narrow the scope; the index rebuilds automatically when the scope changes.

Prompt

Which post types can be indexed on my site, and how many items does each have?

Powered by WPCodeBox
Prompt

Index products and docs in addition to posts and pages.

Prompt

List the custom fields that can be made searchable.

Managing the Index

The index is what makes search instant. The agent can check it, rebuild it, follow progress, and cancel a rebuild that should stop.

Prompt

Is the search index healthy? How many documents does it hold?

Powered by WPCodeBox
Prompt

Rebuild the search index.

Rebuilding requires explicit confirmation from the agent, and only one settings or index operation runs at a time. Rebuilding can also switch the storage engine:

Prompt

Rebuild the search index on the SQLite engine.

Reading Search Analytics

Site Search records what visitors search for. The agent can read the list and, with confirmation, clear it.

Prompt

What are the most popular searches on my site?

Powered by WPCodeBox
Prompt

Clear the popular searches list.

The Confirmation Model

Four operations require the agent to state an explicit confirm flag: rebuilding the index, cancelling a rebuild, resetting all settings, and clearing the popular searches list. A request without the flag fails validation before anything runs, so an agent cannot trigger them by accident; a well-behaved agent asks you first.

On top of that, settings and index operations are serialized: while one runs, a second attempt is refused until the first finishes. Everything else is read-only or a reversible settings write the agent can read first and set back.

Troubleshooting

The agent has no Site Search tools. Check Allow AI agent access on Elevated › Site Search › AI Agent, then ask the agent to refresh its tool list.

Every Site Search call fails with “not found”. Allow AI agent access is switched off. The abilities are unregistered while it is off; switch it on and the tools return.

A request is refused with “Another settings or index operation is already in progress.” A rebuild or settings change is still running. Ask the agent for the rebuild progress and retry when it completes, or have the agent cancel the running rebuild.
