Managing Elevated Product Search with Your AI Agent

A connected AI agent can manage Elevated Product Search end to end: search products the way your storefront does, read and change every plugin setting, rebuild and monitor the search index, and read diagnostics. It cannot touch licensing, install plugins, or switch its own access on. This page lists what the agent can do, with prompts you can copy, and explains the confirmation model that protects destructive operations. If you haven’t connected an agent yet, start with Connect Your AI Agent.

What Your Agent Can Do

Elevated Product Search exposes 12 operations to connected agents: the same validated, permission-checked operations the admin interface uses.

  • Search and lookups. Search the product index exactly the way the storefront widget does, find the categories and tags that can be used as search filters, and list the product custom field keys that can be made searchable.
  • Settings. Read the complete settings, change any of them (a partial update touches only the fields the agent sends), and reset everything to the shipped defaults.
  • Index management. Check whether the index exists and how many products it holds, rebuild it, follow rebuild progress, and read the scheduled-rebuild configuration.
  • Diagnostics. Report the versions, PHP extensions, and WordPress settings the plugin depends on, and read recent debug log entries with server paths removed.

What Your Agent Cannot Do

  • Licensing. License activation and deactivation are not exposed as abilities.
  • Its own access. The Allow AI agent access toggle is yours. When it is off, every Product Search ability disappears from the agent’s tool list.
  • Installing or removing plugins. Installing Agent Connector is a human action on the AI Agent page.
  • Editing products. Product Search abilities read your catalog through the search index; they never create, change, or delete WooCommerce products.

Searching Products

The agent searches the same index your storefront widget uses, honouring the configured include and exclude filters, so its results match what customers see.

Prompt

Search my store for 'dress' and show me the top 5 results with prices.

Powered by WPCodeBox
Prompt

Which product categories and tags can be used as search filters?

To make more product data searchable, start from the custom field list:

Prompt

List the product custom fields that can be added to the Product Search scope.

Changing Settings

Every option in Elevated › Product Search › Settings can be read and changed by the agent. A partial update touches only the fields the agent sends and reports back the full settings, so you can verify the result.

Prompt

Set fuzzy matching in Product Search to normal.

Prompt

Show product images and prices in the search results, and raise the maximum number of results to 10.

Changing what gets searched (titles, SKUs, descriptions, categories, tags, attributes, or custom fields) is also a settings change. When the search scope changes, the plugin schedules an index rebuild automatically.

Prompt

Make SKUs searchable in product search.

Powered by WPCodeBox

The search form, the results dropdown, and the product preview panel are all styled through settings: colors, typography, borders, spacing, and layout. That means the agent can restyle the whole search experience to match your brand from a single description.

Prompt

Restyle the product search to match my brand: buttons and accents in #0B5FFF, white input background, dark gray text, and slightly rounded corners.

Powered by WPCodeBox
Prompt

Make the result titles larger, show product images and prices, and hide the SKU.

Powered by WPCodeBox

The agent reads the current values first, changes only the keys involved, and the response reports exactly which settings changed. If you don’t like the result, ask it to put the previous values back.

Managing the Index

The index is what makes search instant. The agent can check it, rebuild it, and follow progress while a rebuild runs.

Prompt

Is my product search index up to date? How many products does it hold?

Powered by WPCodeBox
Prompt

Rebuild the product search index.

Powered by WPCodeBox

Rebuilding drops the index and builds it again from every published product, so it requires explicit confirmation from the agent.

Prompt

When is the next scheduled index rebuild?

Powered by WPCodeBox

Reading Diagnostics

When something looks wrong, the agent can inspect the environment and the logs before you dig in yourself.

Prompt

Check the Product Search environment for problems: versions, PHP extensions, and WordPress settings it depends on.

Powered by WPCodeBox
Prompt

Show me the most recent Product Search debug log entries.

Powered by WPCodeBox

Debug log entries are returned with server paths removed.

The Confirmation Model

Two operations are destructive: rebuilding the index and resetting the settings. Both carry a required confirm flag, and true is its only accepted value. A request without it fails validation before anything runs, so an agent cannot rebuild or reset by accident; it has to state the confirmation explicitly, and a well-behaved agent asks you first.

Everything else is either read-only or a reversible write: settings updates report exactly which keys changed, and the agent can read the previous values first and set them back.

Troubleshooting

The agent has no Product Search tools. Check Allow AI agent access on Elevated › Product Search › AI Agent, then ask the agent to refresh its tool list.

Every Product Search call fails with “not found”. Allow AI agent access is switched off. The abilities are unregistered while it is off; switch it on and the tools return.

A rebuild seems stuck. Ask the agent for the rebuild progress. If an interrupted run left a lock behind, the agent can retry the rebuild with the force flag, which clears a stuck lock.
